Sustainable Development
We have a long history of working with social and environmental issues hand-in-hand with our businesses.
We operate our expeditions in accordance with the Leave No Trace policies and our camp has a strong eco-profile. We constantly try to develop our operations to benefit both environment and community. Our passion has always been education and today we educate both Nepali and Scandinavian youth to become the next generation of outdoor leaders.
If you want to know more about our projects, please have a look at our grassroot organisation: Silwal Foundation and read about our project Back on Track Nepal below.
Back on Track Nepal
25th of April 2015, a 8.1 m earthquake strikes central Nepal. Devastation. Panic. Aftershakes. Villages rendered flat and 9000 people dead. Over 23 000 people injured. Homes and sacred places destroyed. The emergency help was fast, mostly thanks to the thousands of Nepali volunteers and grass root organizations.
What about the long term? The homes, schools and medical stations that needs to be rebuilt? What about the hope for the future? A hope that saw little possibilities for the most remote communities even before the earthquake struck.
How can we use our skills and knowledge in the best way for Nepal we asked ourselves. We decided to take a group of people on a trip to Nepal they would never forget. An opportunity to be part of rebuilding Nepal. And Back on Track was born.
The Expedition
The Swedish adventure tour operator The Search Adventures designed an amazing itinerary for the group to see, experience and feel the essence of Nepal while contributing to the tourism industry which had plummeted since the earthquake.
5 days during this trip were spent in the remote village of Syadul in central Nepal, were we danced, laughed, cried, built a school floor and play ground, taught locals about recycling, played games with the children and supported locals medical efforts. We learnt new things, shared our knowledge and connected with each other.
A new community was built with people from different parts of the world and between people who didn’t even share the same language.
Together with Silwal Foundation and The Search Adventures we developed a program to give back hope to the village. The village which was already struggling to find a new future when the the earthquake hit, causing damage to local schools and homes. We laid the foundation in each of the following subjects, all part of a long term plan.
- COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT – SUSTAINABLE TOURISM DEVELOPMENT – SCHOOL REBUILD – SPORTS / PHYSICAL EDUCATION – HEALTH -
